Michelle Williams is the new cover girl for the Winter issue of Kontrol Magazine.
The winter glam issue is set to make a powerful statement this month. With two powerful women in their own right, we have set the bar for something special this season. 1/3 of the biggest girl groups ever Michelle Williams is making her mark as a solo artist and actress like no other and isn’t showing any signs of stopping yet.
We had the pleasure of shooting Michelle on location in NYC at the beautiful Paper Factory Hotel in Long Island City with photographer Jonavennci Divad. Michelle was such a delight to work with!
Celebrity stylist, Julian R. Lark, styled Michelle in a few pieces right off the runway such as Meskita, Son Jung Wan and Rene Ruiz just to name a few.
In Michelle’s Interview she talks about her new album Journey To Freedom, Fix My Choir, her love for fashion and starting a family.
Michelle on Fashion:
Unlike some celebrities, Williams loves to mix her high and low brands. “I have a closet full of BCBG and I love Roberto Cavalli dresses.” She isn’t one to just wear names that are familiar to the public, she also enjoys seeking out and supporting new designers as well. One of her favorites is Melange Mode, an African prints inspired collection found on Etsy. Just like her career, her closet is eclectic as well.
When asked what her favorite piece of clothing in her closet is, she quickly responds, “A white skirt. And don’t ask me where it’s from either, I don’t know. But I wouldn’t tell you anyway,” she says with a laugh. “When women get a compliment on something their wearing, we’re always so quick to say, ‘GIRL! I got this at so and so!’. I don’t want to see my favorite [piece of clothing] on everyone.” This doesn’t just apply to her clothing either, says the singer. “I’ve always been told never to tell anyone what fragrance you’re wearing. That should remain your secret.”
Michelle on having Kids:
Her goals in the next few years include continuing to develop and produce music and hopefully more theatre. Before the question can even come up though, she says “Just don’t ask about kids! Now that Kelly and Beyonce have started families, everyone is asking me now. I’ll baby sit, absolutely, but I’m glad to see those headlights pull into my driveway, so I can give them back to their mama.” she laughs. She says she’s learned not to ask other women about babies either. The singer is pretty clear if children are in God’s plans then she’s absolutely on board, but if they aren’t, she is more than okay with that too. And she feels that other women who feel that mothering isn’t for them, shouldn’t be afraid to say it and own it.
Michelle on a DC3 Reunion:
The album marries her R&B roots and her love for gospel so well, which she says is because she could never abandon her R&B background and her time signing with DC3. A time that she thinks of fondly. And wouldn’t be opposed to revisiting. Could a reunion be on the horizon? “I’m always open to being with my girls. We are family. Sisters.” While it doesn’t sound as though a DC3 reunion is imminent, it is clear that their is love there and Willams would be on board.
One thing she would consider being on board for as well, a Destiny’s Child TV Biopic.
