Michelle Williams was invited to participate in a day of praise at the White House. The day began with a workshop for students to ask questions and get feedback on the participating artists experiences about the music and entertainment industry. Michelle was joined by Lyle Lovett, Darlene Love, Rodney Crowell, and Rhiannon Giddens during the workshop for students on “The History of Gospel Music” held in the State Dining Room of the White House in Washington, DC. The first lady Michelle Obama hosted middle school, high school and college students from across the country to participate in the interactive workshop for an overview of the origins of gospel music, discussions on important artists and explore the unique elements of gospel that have inspired the sound of other American musical genres.
After the workshop, Michelle performed “Say Yes” for an intimate concert of Gospel music. The television premiere of “The Gospel Tradition: In Performance at the White House” airs on PBS and TV One June 26 at 9PM est.
