Michelle Williams Spills the Secrets of Her Super Bowl Experience

Michelle Williams sits down with Kevin Frazier at Yahoo’s The Insider to discuss her Superbowl experience from last year and more.

As we look forward to Bruno Mars taking the stage during halftime at the Super Bowl on Sunday, we can’t help but recall just how “Bootylicious” the ladies of Destiny’s Child were last year.

Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams have kept the details that went into their on stage reunion relatively hush-hush … until now, that is. Michelle opened up with “The Insider” co-anchor Kevin Frazier Monday and explained her Super Bowl experience from start to finish, and how she managed to keep her appearance a secret.

“People asked if we were performing at the Super Bowl, I had to ask God for forgiveness a lot because I lied a lot,” she said. “I sometimes was like, ‘No, we’re not performing. I don’t know where y’all is getting this information from.’ You lie for your friends.”

Despite what many may think, she had to keep her lips sealed for much more than just a week or two. It turns out the gig had been in the works for months and she had to hide it from everyone she knew. “People think you just rehearse a week or so before the event,” she admitted. “No, months before, you are sitting down with the producers, your creative director, choreographer, music directors.”

While the 32-year-old had to endure months of rehearsals, when it came time to test out the “toaster” (the machine that popped Kelly and Michelle on stage), she admitted to being absolutely terrified!

“I was the last one to test my toaster ’cause I got there later than everyone else. I had a freaking anxiety attack,” she confessed. “I was literally [shaking] my manager, I was holding on to him. This is a true story, never told anyone this. I literally needed an inhaler.”

Thankfully, she managed to move on from the panic and make it to show day, where she revealed exactly what went down before she took the stage.

“We had our prayer and we stopped and I think B went out first and then Kelly and I parted ways ’cause we were going to separate sides of the stage. It was like, ‘Oh my God, this is for real,'” Michelle admitted. “I’m leaving you, okay. And then it was time to get down in that toaster and they gave you the mic, you put your in ear monitors in, and you just wait till your cue … It’s like once you get in that toaster, it was no turning back. Whatever happens, happens.”
