Michelle Williams was initially scheduled for a one day performance at this year’s Essence Festival due to her schedule with the now cancelled musical tour ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’. Fans were only going to experience her set at the Superlounge on Saturday, July 5th. However, fans were in for a full weekend of Michelle Williams as she started her Essence Fest activities early on Thursday, July 3rd in New Orleans at the ‘Affiliate Pre-Party of Essence’ for Oxygen’s “Fix My Choir”.
Saturday before her set at the Superlounge, she participated in the 11th annual McDonald’s 365Black Awards. Then, she headed over to the Superlounge to perform a near 75-minute set. Her setlist included her solo songs, “If We Had Your Eyes”, “Fire”, “We Break the Dawn”, “The Greatest”, “Heard A Word” and “Say Yes”. Michelle included well-known Destiny’s Child songs “Free”, “Happy Face” and “Girl” plus a cover of “Nobody Greater” by VaShawn Mitchell.
On Sunday, Michelle participated in the All Star tribute to gospel singer Yolonda Adams.
