ROCKFORD (WIFR) — R&B singer Michelle Williams comes back to Rockford to help raise money for the church where she grew up.
Leaders from St. Paul Church of God in Christ hosted the black tie event at Cliffbreakers. Money from tickets and a silent auction will help the church expand its school and ministry programs. During the night couples got to take pictures, hear jokes from Chicago comedian Tara Terry, and listen to Williams perform live.
“To me it’s almost like a family reunion so we know were going to have fun and we know it’s for a good cause, it’s for a school and a church that’s dear to my heart. I grew up at St. Paul. I have a sister and nieces who went to St. Paul Academy,” says Michelle Williams.
This is the first time the church has hosted a black tie gala, they hope to make it a yearly tradition.
